Flags and Flowers

I got up early this morning and noticed that the big curtain across the door had not been pulled across. I think I am right in thinking that in America the word drapes is used for curtains. Which Is how I came to think about the Breton flag......The French word for flag is drapeau.

The National flower of France as far as I can find out is the Iris/Lily, which brings be straight back to the word flag. Flag is also used as a name for the Iris.

Mother in law bought me some bulbs last year in the autumn, I do like the iris flower.

word derivation is so fascinating and, on a completely different note...

I suddenly recalled as a child smearing my face with a dying flag iris and my mum having ever such a hard time trying to get the dye out.

Goodness, the things that are hidden in our memory.
