The darker side of life

Small rant. In my opinion there is far too much violence shown on tv. Some nights it is hard to find something other than murder and then it can be two or three episodes shown back to back. To be honest often I am sat at the pc fiddle about with photos and I am not actually glued to the screen. But some nights especially if I am alone I find I have to take action and turn over or turn off.

I find that the cruelty that they re-enact is going further, I mean worse and worse. Most of the really violent programmes shown here are American although I guess that the French Flic programmes may spiral downwards too.

Is it just me who feels this way or am I a minority??

Dark Moods

The French word for darkness is noirceur.

The French word for cruelty is cruauté

The French word for dreadful is effroyable.

Etymolgy for macabre.

French TV films

Last night we watched a film on France 3 called L'Oncle de Russie., the star of the film was the actor Claude Brasseur. He has one of those faces where words are not always necessary, a face full of lines and life. I like faces like that.

I like a face with character I am not into the beauty that todays world seems to be obsessed with.

The film was about a French man who gets incarcerated in Russia during the war but doesn't manage to get back to France until 1989. His eventual homecoming is full of anguish and trouble, and the inheritance that he has lost to other members of his family causes a lot of pain.

Here is a link to some pictures.

Here is another Claude Brasseur what a beauty.

I know little about roses, here is one from my garden I have no idea what it is called, but it is pink.

English Connections

Today it rained a lot and so I have spent time cooking and now I am watching television. With a digi box you can receive a lot more channels and the channel we are watching tonight is NRJ 12. We are watching Life on Mars. Understanding the dialogue is normally helped by reading the dialogue on the screen (in French) with the soutitrage. Unfortunately with channels that are not "mainstream" but are picked up via a digi box subtitles are not available.!

So I am watching English tv albeit in French. Oh what did I cook for dinner tonight? A curry which was all homemade since the French dont really care for hot spicey Onion Bhajis and food like that.

French TV

Today I am looking at the tv guide that comes with the weekly paper. This tv film caught my eye. Quite a lot of Brits will not or do not watch French tv, it has a bit of a bad reputation, however there are some really excellent programmes and films if you only look hard enough.
TF2 have made a tele film about Louise Michel, there is a huge amount in Wikipedia about her here. She was in and out of prison but kept her mind very active read this about a prison visit I found it very interesting. I think Louise icône révolutionnaire was a bit of a character!. The actress playing the role of Louise is Sylvie Testud. The French use the word comédienne which is very misleading. Don't sit down expecting to watch a comedy!
