How Sad

A friend on the forum that I use (Brittany Friends), made a post tonight about dogs being stood on while still alive and then later their skin is used as fur to be worn by us humans!. This is happening in China and goodness knows where else.

It is not just dogs it is cats too. I made a quick look on the Internet to see what information there is and it isn't good. I cannot watch footage of such horrors as animals being skinned alive.

Products from China for sale here in France have been on the news a lot this year, and it is always bad press. After several cases of people buying chairs imported from China, and then having terrible skin problems, the import of certain chairs from China are being banned. The chairs have been treated with some nasty chemical which has caused skin rashes.

I am probably guilty of buying something cheap from China myself, but I will not be wearing any fur ever.

Here is my lovely dog looking at you!
Fourrure is the French word for fur.

Friday

This weeks paper shows a picture of President Sarkozy who made a visit to nearby Laval which is in Mayenne. The government is trying to help get the unemployed back to work. However with the military cutbacks the closing of the 42nd Regiment de Transmissions (Signals) is also a cause for concern. Also an article about the introduction of pinball machines and darts leagues Flechette to help the cafe's and bars who have lost money since the smoking bans where introduced in January.

I went over to Laval in June this year here are a couple of photographs.

Assumption Day

Today is Assumption day which may mean something to you if you are Catholic. At the moment the Dalai Lama is on a visit to France although the President is not meeting him. The French news is full of clips after Alain Bernard gets a gold medal. Alain is from Aubagne.

This morning in the forest I saw again some pretty pink flowers some of the plants are over 5 feet tall. I tried to find out what they might be and found something very similar. Trouble is the something similar is Joe Pye Weed from North America!!!!...Here is Wikipedia's Joe Pye

News Today

A new European directive to keep the beaches clean, a picture showing a teenager with water to be analysed. The secretary of state presents the new system today.

Lorient have invited a male voice choir from Dowlais in Wales.
Dowlais Male voice choir (ci-contre), tenants d’une tradition bousculée par le jeaune géneration, comme le rappeur Aneirin Karadog lui aussi programmé.

So if I understand correctly the male voice choir are holders of a tradition but are pushed aside by the younger singers for example rappers. Personally I cannot stand rap music.

I havnt been to Lorient yet here is a link about the place and the festival....Lorient

Chambardement, and the prices at the petrol stations

Friday and its time to buy the local paper again. Carte Militaire le grand chambardement, which kind of means turned UP sidedown or a big shake up!. There are going to be huge cutbacks and military bases will be closed.

Renault is to lay off 5000 employees.

People are buying less fuel for their cars (so they must be staying at home).

This week I have seen diesel at various prices from 1.36.7euros today at Carrefour Fougeres
middle price 1.39.9euros at LClerc St Hilaire du Harqouet & 1.44euros at Champion in our local town!!! Its a big concern to many of us.
I do own a 4 x 4 however it hasnt got a big engine, it doesnt run on petrol it runs on diesel it isnt a gas guzzler and I drive it like a pussy cat!
Anyway changing the subject I noticed this morning in my garden that some new flowers had popped up and look here is one of them!

News Today

Cycling is very popular in France and lots of the locals dress in their lycra on a Sunday and wizz around the roads and the wide forest tracks. Our village is used as a start and finish for several local cycle races.

As ever there are again more problems with some riders participating in the le Tour. It beats me why they imagine that they can get away with it, are they really that stupid?

An article about underage drinking, the French are afraid they with have the English binge drinking problems.
