Its all rubbish here

Weekends don't count unless you spend them doing something completely pointless. ~Bill Watterson

Sunday morning I am meeting a couple of friends, and we are going to a Vide =empty Grenier =loft sale. You may have heard of all the wonderful bargains that can be found at a Vide Grenier. Well last year I went to one near here and I was amazed. I had seen better stuff thrown away at the local tip in the UK. That's not to say that I haven't been known to purchase a bargain at a tip, because I have.

I spotted the beautiful horn of plenty last weekend in Vitre, it is all hand carved, and it is above an Insurance shop.

Maybe I find a horn of plenty!

Well I am only going to be sociable and I will be amazed if there is anything other than rubbish. I will let you know if I spot a real bargain! Wish me luck!

Not weather for hats

Much of France is engulfed in a mad tempete tonight. So it is much too windy for a hat! So windy that the wood burner is burning faster than it should, its a bit draughty in here.

In the winter I hate to be outside without a hat, the last two winters my favorite is a fleece lined baseball cap with a larger than usual peak. But I love hats of all types and I love to see people wearing them.

My lifestyle doesn't require me to dress in a stylish fashion, but that doesn't mean that I don't like to see others who have some sort of style. I am normally dressed in warm practical tops, with jeans and flat shoes.
Last summer I was mooching around Pontorson, a nice town near to Mont Saint Michel, it was
market day and all the world was enjoying the warm sunshine. My friend and I bought some nice beads, and then we enjoyed a drink at a bar situated at the back of the market, we watched the people. People watching with a cool pink Kir to sip, it is a nice way to while away 30 minutes.

I saw this lady with a style all of her own, she looked brilliant, but not my thing at all.

Lady in frock with unusual hat.

But at Dinan market I saw this lady sporting a very feminine number and stopped me in my tracks, and I felt that she deserved a photograph, ain't she sweet! ha ha.....

Missing people and paper flowers

Thursday afternoon was a visit to the shops to replenish the food and wine stocks. Thursday is a quiet time to go shopping because it is not market day. However remember that lots of our shops are closed until after lunch, so we have to make a plan and leave home just before 14.00hrs. The roads are quiet too. I have noticed that many of the houses are locked up because the owners are away. Shutters are closed and our village has been very quiet. Less lorries on the roads too.
So I guess that they are all on vacance? or is it congé?........anyway like I said its quiet and the shutters are down.
The village will liven up soon since we are to have the Feté de Fleurs it only happens every TEN years! Some people who have a holiday home here were horrified to hear that the flowers arnt real either...are they kidding!..they have been sticking paper flowers on the floats for months now.
The roses in the picture are real and flowered in my garden this year, pretty eh.

So if you have a Fete in the summer it has to be a festival!...estival
